Central Michigan University is a nationally ranked institution that fosters the transformative power of advanced learning while embracing a sense of community among our students, faculty, staff and more than 235,000 alumni around the world. Established in 1892, CMU has more than 16,000 students on its Mount Pleasant campus and more than 8,000 enrolled online and at more than 30 locations across North America. Approximately 20 percent of CMU’s main campus students supplement their on-campus classes with online courses.
CMU offers a transformative culture powered by a world-class education. While learning at CMU includes all facets of campus life, Central’s eight colleges and academic programs, many nationally recognized, will help students develop the critical thinking, research, analytical and communication skills to ensure their success. The university offers more than 300 academic programs at the undergraduate, master's, specialist and doctoral levels.
CMU offers students personal path to learning that will include far more than the courses they take. Involvement in a variety of groups and organizations is not only an indicator of academic success, but it’s also another avenue for students to engage with their fellow CMU Chippewas and share experiences and ideas on cultural, recreational, professional and social topics through CMU’s nearly 400 student organizations. Whether it be intramural or club sports, theater, dance, fraternities and sororities, social activism, volunteering, or any other form, CMU’s student organizations offer a platform for continued success outside the classroom. They build leaders, not for tomorrow, but for today.
CMU’s campus is located in the heart of Mount Pleasant. There aren’t many places like the city of Mount Pleasant. It’s a safe, relaxing environment that offers a small-town feel with all the activities and attractions of a city twice its size. From dining and golf, to canoeing to skydiving, students will find something exciting to do.
