THE世界大学排名是由英国泰晤士高等教育（Times Higher Education）参照汤姆森路透社（Thomson Reuters）数据库，独立设定指标排列发布的年度前500名世界大学排名榜。1971年之前，英国泰晤士高等教育增刊（Times Higher Education）是属于英国泰晤士报（The times）的一部分，2005年，英国泰晤士报（The times）老板鲁伯特·默多克将TSL Education（包括本增刊）以2.35亿英镑的价格出售给一家私募基金公司。英国泰晤士高等教育（Times Higher Education）是独立于英国泰晤士报（The times）的一家刊物。

2019THE世界大学专业排名权威解读
自2004年11月起，泰晤士高等教育每年与QS（Quacquarelli Symonds）合作，公布共同的世界大学排名，即泰晤士高等教育-QS世界大学排名，具有广泛的影响力。后来，在2009年的排名推出后，两者正式解散并开始发表各自的排名，从此被称为“泰晤士高等教育世界大学排名（Times Higher Education World University Rankings）"。 发布机构：泰晤士高等教育 所在国别：英国 开始年份：2010 排名侧重：科研、教学 解读： 本次排名，THE意图打破多年以来英美等英语国家在世界排名中的垄断，结合了不同地区的经济情况评估收入指标，增加问卷调查的语言种类，降低北美学者反馈比重，以期消除经济发展状况与学术圈主流语言英语为英语国家大学带来的先天优势。 本次排名中，世界排名前十的大学依次是：加州理工学院（美国）、牛津大学（英国）、斯坦福大学（美国）、剑桥大学（英国）、麻省理工学院（美国）、哈佛大学（美国）、普林斯顿大学（美国）、帝国理工学院（英国）、苏黎世联邦理工学院（瑞士）、芝加哥大学（美国）。除了瑞士一枝独秀，其余名额皆被美英揽获，可见，顶尖名校还是要看传统强国，美国与英国的优势地位仍是不可撼动。 THE排名权重： THE排名更倾向于给出对学校的教学与研究的评价，在其排名指标中，学校教学与研究的声誉占了较大比重（分别为15%和18%），论文的引用量是重要的衡量标准（30%）。和QS、US news相比，THE的排名指标设置较为均衡。 教学（占30%） 研究（占30%） 论文引用（占32.5%） 企业经费（占2.5%） 国际化程度（占5%）
